Amy Arbus

I selected these five from several of her portfolios. They show a certain style of taking portraits I found particularly liking. What intrigued me is that, while seaming posed, they had a very comfortable, 'grab shot' appearance. It looks as though she just interjected herself during an activity, asking "may I take your picture". This gives the appearance more of spontaneity as opposed to formality. As a result, the personalities of the subjects simply ooze out to the viewer. Technically sound photographs.
