Kohei Yoshiyuki

This is work by Kohei Yoshiyuki's series "The Park" in which he photographed people performing sexual acts at night in the park during the seventies. The obvious voyeurism in the photographs implicate the viewer in the act of watching, we become one of the crowd. The social phenomenon of sexual exploration during the 70's is beautifully documented in the work.

Joan Kocak

I picked Joan Kocak because of her still life photography. She uses photoshop CS4 and photographs of paper and peeling paint to add to the backgrounds of her images and gives them a soft painterly look. I love the extra dimention that it gives her images.

David Prifti

I chose David Prifti because of the emotion lying under each of the subjects faces and eyes. His use of the traditional wet plate collodion process adds character to each picture along with the little scratches in the negatives and the color of the photographs giving the image a worn and older feeling supporting a story to the subject. Each exposure taking 30 seconds to 2 minutes Prifti finds that the collaboration is the power of the process with the commited time of the sitter is present in the final image. http://www.prifti.net/

Nicholas Nixon

Nicholas Nixon, an instructor at MassArts, is most famous for his project entitled, "The Brown Sisters" which is series of annual photographs of his wife and her sisters. The images were taken from 1975 on. The series is lauded for its beautiful rendering of the incremental effects of the aging process.

Nixon uses an 8x10 camera and is known for his capacity to set up and manipulate the camera quickly--almost like a small hand held 35mm camera. I think that this is evident in some of the images posted here, which seem to be almost quick grab shots of scenes--as opposed to long, drawn-out and carefully composed large format images.

Nixon does not have a website that I could find, but a summary on Nixon and his work can be found on the Fine Art Photography Masters Website

Ryan Pfluger

These images by Ryan Pfluger stuck out the most to me in his whole collection. The color of the back drop seems to be chosen specifically for the model, making the image seem more personal. The soft, gentle lighting makes the photograph (not the model) appear quite feminine. It looks as though the models true personalities are being shown rather than just a staged pose. But it might just be the impeccable lighting and colored back drop. Who knows. Either way I think these photos are fantastic, and his other portraits are wonderful too. http://www.ryanpfluger.com/portfolio/
Enjoy!

Spencer Tunick

Tunick, 1967, Middletown, NY.
A bold approachusing mass nudity in urban environments and natural landscapes.

Composition is good, however, the quality of the prints, tonal range , etc. is hard to judge from these reproductions. Large prints need to be viewed at a distance to gain the full impact of the work.
